Dear Class of 2021 Parents/Guardians,

With graduation quickly approaching, many have questions pertaining to COVID.  At this time, attendance at the commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 15 at 2:00 pm will not be restricted.  However, masks may be required or strongly recommended depending on school/community wide COVID cases at the time. The school will provide masks if needed. Attendance guidelines will be finalized as we get closer to graduation. Until then, please mark your calendar with the dates below.

The Senior Academic Awards Program will be Monday, May 10 at 2:30 pm in the high school gym.  If you are unable to attend, a livestream link will located on the Sioux Valley website: www.svs.k12.sd.us.  Please understand that Sioux Valley is not always notified of scholarships; therefore, if your senior is a recipient

of a scholarship and would like it announced at the awards program, you must notify Mrs. Jorgenson via email (Monica.Jorgenson@k12.sd.us) or phone (627-5657 ext. 330).

Seniors’ last day of school will be Wednesday, May 12.  All books, fines, athletic uniforms (except golf and track), library and lunch accounts will be due by 1:30 pm that day.  Per school policy, seniors must be passing all of their classes and within .5 credits of the mandatory 24 credits to participate in the commencement ceremony.  Seniors failing any class and/or not within the .5 credits can still earn their diploma by successfully completing their coursework by Tuesday, May 25.  However, they will unfortunately not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony itself.

Baccalaureate ceremonies will be Wednesday, May 12 at 7:30 pm in the PAC.  Seniors should gather at the north end of the PAC lobby by 7:15 pm.  Local churches are sponsoring this event and will be sending you a letter of invitation. Graduates will wear their cap and gown.

Senior breakfast will be Friday, May 14 at 10:00 am in the Commons and catered by Midwest Fresh Bakery.  Graduates will practice for the commencement ceremony following the senior breakfast.

Graduation is on Saturday, May 15 at 2:00 pm in the Sioux Valley High School gymnasium.  Seniors will need to be in the library by 1:30 pm for pictures.  A livestream link will be available on the district’s website for those unable to attend graduation.  Senior gif bags will be located in the Commons if you would like to bring cards/gifts.  A reception line will not occur; however, the graduates will have a vehicle parade immediately following the ceremony.  Route of parade TBA.  It will be up to the senior parents to determine whether to have an open house for their graduate(s).

I want to thank you for sharing your senior(s) with us; we will miss them!  I consider it an honor and a privilege to have been their principal and look forward to hearing about the many successes that surely lie ahead.

Sincerely,

Belinda L. Miller
