This Thankful Thursday shout out goes to Mrs. Jerzak, our FACS teacher. Mrs. Jerzak is the latest recipient of our Spark Plug Award. Her nomination from Mrs. Schmidt says it best about how wonderful Mrs. Jerzak is as a person and a teacher:
The Spark Plug award is given to someone who is innovative, takes risks and makes a difference for kids. In my experiences, both as an educator and as a parent, I have found that this person is always willing to help students. She creates a respectable relationship with her students from middle school through high school. As her students near the end of their high school years, she has been instrumental in being encouraging and having effective conversations with those making post-secondary decisions.
In her classroom, she develops unique activities in line with the current needs. One example was sewing lanyards when the students had to carry their lunch tickets. She finds innovative ways to keep students on task and excited about her content. She is motivating with her kindness and encourages students to do their best in order to be to successful. She has a calm demeanor, but maintains control in her classroom, creating a culture of mutual respect.
As a staff member, she has been instrumental in creating wellness activities for the staff, as well as planning staff social outings. I appreciate the extra efforts you have put in, Natalie, to help build strong, positive long lasting relationships. Thank you for all you do and for being an amazing educator.
There will be a Pep Rally for the Boys Basketball team next Tuesday (3/15) at 3:15pm as they prepare to go to the State A Basketball Tournament.

This Thankful Thursday shout out goes to Mr. Buisker, one of our high school science teachers. Mr. Buisker has recently been named the Sioux Valley Teacher of the Year! This is a well deserved honor as evidenced by this nomination from a colleague:
Mr. Buisker has high expectations for his students, he is extremely engaging, and he has mastered his content. He does his ultimate best to prepare his students for college and the real world, challenging them daily. In addition, he is interesting and engaging with his class discussions and activities. Mr. Buisker puts in extra time and effort before and after school preparing his lessons. In his high school classes, he engages students by doing many different labs and activities. He has an online interactive platform where he and the students can participate in various online labs to get the more hands-on feel for the different science concepts. With these great opportunities, students are well prepared for their careers after high school, whether it's college, a trade school, or even getting started in the work force. Mr. Buisker plays a big role in why students are so ready.
I couldn't have said it better myself! He has built a classroom culture that is caring while challenging students to maximize their potential. Mr. Buisker, thank you for all you do for our school!
